Chef’s Surprise is a wordless narrative for under 5’s that I created for Walker Books as part of the Pathways course. The brief specified a page count of 12 pages, with limited background detail and focus on the character’s emotions and props. We were encouraged to think about the rhythm of the piece.
For this project, I was particularly influenced by the bright colours and movement of mid-century vintage children’s illustration.
